April Challenge Card

Hello Everyone!

Best Wishes is my April challenge card that I will be sending to Frenchie Stamps.  The objective of the challenge was to highlight the beautiful foil papers offered by Stampin Up!  For the most part, this is a simple and straight forward card.  The most challenging part was to get the correct shading on the Definitely Dahlia stamp.  I tried three different methods:

1.  Stamping in Pumpkin Pie ink and then distressing the image with Sahara Sands ink.
2.  Dragging Pumpkin Pie ink across card stock and then stamp the Dahlia with versamark embossing in and use clear embossing ink.  After inking, I used bleach to lighten the tips of the petals.
3.  Stamping the Dahlia with versamark ink and heat embossing with copper.  Then water coloring the tips of the petals with Pumpkin Pie ink.

While all three images were nice, I chose the clear embossed image treated with bleach.  I think that by dragging the ink pad over the craft card stock and then clear embossing the image produced a darker richer image.  The bleaching of the unembossed portion of the image gave a vivid contrast to the darker petals.

The card base is a basic z-fold that has been embossed on the folded side.  I did choose to adhere the folded edge down so that the image would lay flatter.  Lastly, I stamped two sentiments from the Cake Soiree stamp set and punched them out.  I used the smaller "Best Wishes" on the front and "Happy Birthday" on the inside.
